du·a·gwyn

What’s in a name? In our case, plenty.

One day, it occurred to me that the vast majority of our hens, all three of our cats and our dog are some combination of black, white and grey. With the exception of the chickens, these animals chose us, in one way or another. Hmmm…

Black and white. That’s us, it seems, in more ways than one. But what to name our new farm? We wanted a name name, like, say, “Tara”. I began looking at translations of “black and white” in other languages. Gaelic was my first stop (we’re Scotophiles here), but the translation, while lovely, bordered on the unpronounceable.

When I found the Welsh translation, “du a gwyn“, we all agreed that we had found the name for our farm. We are very du a gwyn here.
